Day 1: May 6, 2019. The 'download' was given to someone that has the heart of a storyteller, but not the intellectual tools to do so. Draft one was 140, 000+ words of...garbage. Unreadable. I used an entire paragraph to say what could easily be condensed into one sentence and called myself a 'poetic' writer.
I was flat out told no one would give my manuscript a single glance unless I got it under 100, 000 words. Did I have all of the feelings and say all of the things about the guy that didn't know I was the next 'enter your favorite author here'?!? Yes. And then I did what I always do: figure it out, keep moving forward.
I looked into writing classes being offered at my local junior college, paid for the class, went all in with note taking and went Old School with recipe cards spread across my living room as I mapped out the three acts for book one. Today, I'm sitting a little over 81, 000 words.
Lesson learned: I don't know how much I don't know about the craft of writing, but I will do anything to learn how. And maybe, someday, be the next 'enter your favorite author here'.
